August 9, 2017 Katie Meek
Meekly-Yours-Papered-Thooughts-God-Grant-Me-Serenity-Quote.jpg

As a teenager, I got a notebook with this quote on the cover with a beautiful, vibrant beach photo. I liked the message & the bright colors & it brought me great comfort every time I used it. It wasn't until wasn't until I entered college that the quote started to take on new meaning.Although I loved college, it was a major growing period in my life & I faced some really hard things.

July 12, 2017 Katie Meek
Meekly-Yours-Treat-People-Like-People-Quote.jpg

This month, Tuesday Together groups are focusing on networking & relationships. Networking can be intimidating & overwhelming. It's easy to feel pressured to talk to everyone in the room or walk away with your next big project to count a networking opportunity as successful. With practice it does become easier to talk about yourself & your business & find connections, but approaching someone you haven't met—especially if they play are significant role in the community or industry—can be overwhelming.

Hand Lettering 101: Developing Concepts

July 5, 2017 Katie Meek
I create a number concept sketches for each project in pencil, before refining & finalizing them with ink. I also, do larger sketches to work through detailed parts of the design. The above concept sketches helped determine the final design for these mermaid invitations.

After pulling together images, color palettes & ideas for inspiration, it's time to start developing concepts. With the ease of modern technology, some creatives overlook concepting & start working with digital tools right way, but I find developing concepts plays an important role my creative process.
reating a series of rough sketches with pencil & paper—usually a minimum of four sketches—for each project, helps me explore different layouts, styles & accompanying illustrations quickly& effectively to find the best solution.

Growing up, I had amazing Sunday school teachers and youth leaders. They were great role models, and many of my beliefs are rooted in the things they taught me. One mantra has particularly stuck with me and has helped shape my perspective on life: "We do hard things." Simple idea, right?

May 24, 2017 Katie Meek
ToolsoftheTrade.jpg

People often say that the a craftsman is only as good as his tools. Good tools are invaluable, and poor tools can limit your ability to work effectively. However, getting a fancy set of pens, a brand new camera, or cutting edge software doesn't suddenly make you good at your craft. An important part of learning and developing any craft is knowing how to use the tools you have.
